As a court-appointed special advocate (CASA) volunteer, you are entrusted by the courts to help make this dream a reality. Beyond creating positive change in the lives of these vulnerable children, your impact will extend to their families for generations. Additionally, you will enhance your own life. Requirements for Becoming a CASA Volunteer

An applicant must:

  • Be at least 21 years of age.

  • Submit a CASA volunteer application.

  • Complete a personal interview.

  • Successful applicant(s) will be required to undergo a criminal background investigation, a Social Security Number verification, and a multi-state sex and violent offender search.

  • Complete a 30-hour initial new volunteer training provided by the Central SD CASA program.

  • Attend the initial swearing-in ceremony.

  • Complete 12-hours of continuing education annually.

  • Commit to meeting with assigned children at least once a month.

  • Commit to attending scheduled court hearings.

  • Advocate for the children on an assigned case throughout the duration of the case.
